It’s December! It feels just like it was yesterday I preached my first sermon at Aldersgate. Now it’s already December. You know what I mean. I am saying Christmas is just around the corner. Can you believe it? Wait, wait. Before we talk about December, I want to let you know that at this moment, as I am writing this article three days before Thanksgiving Day, my heart is filled with gratitude for all the blessings God has poured upon me. Of course, I am thankful to God for the opportunity to serve Aldersgate Church and each and every one of you.
Now let’s talk about Christmas. Stores started putting Christmas decorations out before Halloween. Kmart posted a holiday layaway commercial on YouTube on September 5. Many stores put out Christmas items beginning September. For me it didn’t mean anything.
But yesterday as I was thinking about this article, a passage from Isaiah cropped up:
Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. – Isaiah 7:14, NKJV
It was strange. All of a sudden, my heart started beating fast. The excitement and joy of Christmas was filling my heart. God is sending His Son. He will be arriving on Christmas Eve. Wow! Not from Amazon.com. Not by UPS. It is God-thing. The virgin shall conceive and bear a Son. God is doing amazing things, beyond human imagination. Nothing is impossible to God. And shall call His name Immanuel, which means “God with us.” Wow, this amazing God is com-ing to us. What a gift it is! How can I miss the opportunity to welcome our God? God is coming to be with us and to live in each of us.
How should I keep my heart from beating fast? I can’t wait to see Baby Jesus on Christmas Eve, who will be born again this year in my heart and your heart. Let us be prepared for His coming through the Advent season and follow Mary and Joseph from Jerusalem to Bethlehem to meet the baby Jesus, Immanuel.
May the amazing God be with you and bless you in the season of Advent and Christmas with new hopes, new possibilities and new life.
