It’s hard to believe summer is almost over. I pray you have had a wonderful summer. I have enjoyed having some down time and am energized for all the things starting and re-starting in September.

On September 13, we kick off the new Sunday school year. I’m excited that we are starting a new pre-school class. Look for more information in this newsletter about all the classes offered on Sundays this fall.

Also on September 13 is our 60th anniversary celebration! It’s been ten years since we broke ground on the church addition. Many ministries we never imagined before are possible because of the decisions and sacrifices of countless people over the past 60 years. Elsewhere in this Hinge you will find more information about this celebration. I hope you’ll join us, not just to look back, but to imagine the future because God is faithful!

This fall we are implementing the intentional discipleship program that we’ve been working on for the last year and a half. The yellow sheet entitled “The Faithful Lifestyle at Aldersgate,” found behind the welcome table, outlines the process. As disciples we are called to love God, love others, and serve Christ with joy both within the church and in the community. Discover Discussions are intended to help visitors and members alike grow in their knowledge and love of Christ. Each topic for discussion will be offered three times a year, so if you miss it this fall, look for the next date it’s offered. The first discussion is “What’s the big deal about the Bible?” on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 7:00 p.m. lead by Ray Poling. You can find a list of all the discussions and when they will be first offered in this edition of the Hinge.

Ray Poling will also be leading a DISCIPLE Bible Study Class on Wednesdays beginning with an orientation session on Sept. 16. DISCIPLE is a 34-week course. It’s a wonderful opportunity to read, discuss and be transformed by God’s word. Talk to anyone who has taken it and I’m sure they will encourage you to join because it’s a life-changing experience.  If you want more information, talk with Ray or me.

We are also hoping to hold a short-term study on Christian Parenting this fall. If you are interested, please let me know so we can determine the best time to hold it. It will be a great opportunity for parents to connect with each other and support one another in that all-important task of raising healthy, happy children who love and serve God.

In Christ’s love,

Pastor Anne
